Day 104 – April 4
I called my mom today to find out how to choose a good avocado, and learned all sorts of great little tidbits about vegetables!
So with the avocados: you want the skin to be somewhat purpleish and when you press on the fruit, you want it to give just a bit, but not to the point of being mushy. Then again, you don’t want it rock hard, either.
Eggs: Did you know that you can freeze eggs and then use them later? I’ll be honest . . . I was busy looking at some veggies and thinking about the price, so I didn’t totally catch what she said about this. But, it was something like you crack the egg, add salt (or sugar if you are going to use it for baking) and freeze it. Here’s a website with some info on how to freeze and use frozen eggs.
Bananas: They get ripe so fast! One way to slow that down, separate them from the bunch when you get home. Who knew?!?!
The smaller the fruit or veggie, the sweeter. We were discussing asparagus as they were on mega sale, and they were the skinny ones. As it turned out, they weren’t all that great. I think the bigger ones are better since there is more there to enjoy. Maybe I over-roasted them, but I think that in the future, I’ll stick with the plump asparagus.
What are your favorite fruit and veggie tips?
